Best of the Week

27 Aug

It’s a new season… and I feel inspired… that is why you will see much more posts here on my blog. One of the new features will be a “Best of the Week” section where I will be posting links to friends of mine, idols of mine and other cool places I find while browsing the Net.

The aim of this feature will be to collect and distribute some information that I feel can be helpful, insightful, or just plain funny some times.

So without further delay, here is the “Best of the Week”:

New Canon 60D

What a day to start the “Best of the Week” because the Net was full of hype today about the news from Canon… they announced some 4 new L-lenses and a new body – the Canon 60D.

On EOS-Network you can find a very good commentary on the camera and lenses and in summary, So where does this leave us? Clearly the new lenses are really quite interesting, especially the fisheye and the300mmm/400mm lenses. How about the camera, what are your thoughts? Is it something you’d consider? How about for movie shooting? That flip-out LCD screen could prove very useful for that and help with focus, especially considering it is the same high resolution screen with 1,040K dot resolution as the EOS 550D making focus judgement much easier and clearer to see.”

The guys at DP Review went into much more detail about the Canon 60D and I summarise, “following the launch of the EOS 7D, the 60D has been repositioned in the market, so isn’t a simple upgrade to its predecessor. Instead the 60D is a smaller camera featuring an articulated screen and plastic body shell and utilizing SD memory cards. It combines the 18MP CMOS sensor and 1040k dot 3.0″ LCD from the EOS 550D (Rebel T2i) with the AF system from the 50D. Meanwhile it gains the 7D’s HD movie capability.”

Personally I am not too excited about the 60D, but I must admit the 8-15mm f4 fish-eye does interest me but not sure if I would choose the new one over the f2.8 15mm fish-eye?
